Italian Senior Open: Round One Preview

Emmanuel Canonica will tee off in the opening group at the Italian Senior Open at Argentario Golf and Wellness Resort in Tuscany on Friday 21st October. The 11th edition of the tournament is being held at Italy’s PGA National Course which will be a stern test for the field due to its narrow, undulating fairways and small greens. The big hitting Italian will be looking to build on 2 top 5 finishes in his last 3 outings on the Legends Tour when he gets the tournament underway alongside England’s Gary Marks and Spain’s Carl Suneson.

Defending Champion, James Kingston will start his campaign for back to back Italian Senior Open titles when he tees off at 11.04am with Roger Chapman. The South African edged out Swede Joakim Haeggman in a tense finish to secure his first Legends Tour title in the 2021 Senior Italian Open at San Dominico. Kingston moved to the top of the Order of Merit with his fourth top 5 finish of the season last week at the European Senior Masters. His consistency has been second to none.

Two time Italian Senior Open winner Clark Dennis will be accompanied by Swede Jarmo Sandelin when he gets underway at 11.59am. The American won this tournament in 2017 and 2018 and arrives in Tuscany on a rich vein of form; he was T3 at La Manga last week and has had recent success Stateside on the Champions Tour also. Dennis would become the first player to win this tournament three times if he prevails this week.

The 62 man field also includes Italian golf legend Constantino Rocca, 2021 Senior Open Champion Stephen Dodd who was the 2016 winner of this tournament, and Swede Michael Jonzon who’ll be looking to bounce back after falling just short in his quest to win his first Legends Tour title, when he lost in a playoff to Paul Lawrie at La Manga.
