The Staysure Legends Tour returns to Marbella this week as the Staysure Marbella Legends once again opens the global season at Aloha Golf Club, where the first chapter of the 2026 campaign will be written on one of Spain’s most established golfing stages.
Following the success of its inaugural edition, the tournament again places Marbella and the Costa del Sol at the front of the international calendar. A field of 60 players from 18 countries — with close to 700 worldwide victories between them — gathers in Andalucía to begin the new Staysure Legends Tour season.
Aloha Golf Club provides a fitting test. Set in Marbella’s Golf Valley, the par-72 layout demands precision and patience, and its established greens offer the consistent surfaces players expect at this level. It is a course that rewards experience — something this field has in abundance.
The tournament will also mark a first appearance on the Tour for several players beginning a new chapter in their careers. Denmark’s Søren Hansen, a 2008 Ryder Cup player and four-time DP World Tour winner, joins the field alongside Chile’s Felipe Aguilar, who has claimed eight professional victories worldwide, including two on the DP World Tour. Scotland’s Alastair Forsyth, a two-time DP World Tour champion, also makes his debut, as does France’s Anthony Grenier, a consistent performer across the European circuits, and Northern Ireland’s Cameron Clark, who secured his place through Q-School.
Together they reflect the varied routes that bring players to the senior game — from Ryder Cup experience and long European Tour careers to qualification school — blending established pedigree with fresh opportunity as the 2026 Staysure Legends Tour season gets underway.
Among the headline names are two of Spain’s most iconic figures — José María Olazábal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez — alongside Ryder Cup legend Colin Montgomerie. They are joined by fellow Major champions Paul Lawrie and Michael Campbell, as well as 2018 Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn, giving the week both depth and world class pedigree.
Olazábal, a two-time Masters champion, 23-time DP World Tour winner and the captain behind Europe’s “Miracle of Medinah” victory in 2012, remains one of the game’s most respected competitors. Jiménez returns to home soil with 45 international victories to his name, including 21 DP World Tour titles and three Senior Major championships, and will once again carry strong local support.
Montgomerie’s record speaks for itself: eight-time European No. 1, 31 DP World Tour titles, 54 wins worldwide and a victorious Ryder Cup captaincy at Celtic Manor in 2010. Lawrie, The Open Champion in 1999, adds further Major-winning experience alongside eight DP World Tour victories. Campbell, winner of the 2005 U.S. Open, brings 15 professional titles, while Bjørn — a 15-time DP World Tour winner — led Europe to Ryder Cup success in Paris and continues to contend strongly on the senior stage.
Olazábal, who has long enjoyed competing in southern Spain, believes the setting remains a natural fit for the season’s opening week.
“It is always a pleasure to come to this part of Spain. You have fantastic courses, wonderful weather and outstanding hospitality,” said Olazábal. “It will be a very special tournament and one that will continue to grow.”
For Jiménez, the week carries added motivation after finishing just outside the top spots last year.
“Aloha is one of the finest courses and clubs, not only in Spain but in Europe,” said Jiménez. “People feel at home here from morning until night, and that is essential for an event of this level, where we come to compete, to enjoy ourselves and to entertain the fans.”
Montgomerie also arrives in familiar surroundings, optimistic about the new season.
“It’s always nice to come out here,” he said. “I feel very much at home here, the south of Spain has been very good to me. The food, the people, the atmosphere – it has a nice feel to it. The greens are very, very good, very true, so we’re looking forward to it.”
This edition carries additional emotion as Cádiz-born Juan Quirós prepares to play the final international tournament of his professional career. After more than four decades competing worldwide and four Staysure Legends Tour victories, he will say farewell on home soil in Andalucía, adding a personal note to an already significant week.
The tournament gets underway on Friday at Aloha Golf Club, with free admission for spectators. Live scoring will be available at www.legendstour.com.
