The Scot claimed 7th place at the Riegler and Partner Legends and would end up 4th in the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.
Russell won his only DP World Tour title in his maiden season, 1996, with the Air France Cannes Open. He would place 14th on the Order of Merit that season and 16th a year later before going on to finish in 4th place in the 1998 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Russell played on the 1993 Walker Cup team and represented Scotland in the World Cup of Golf in 1997.
