Jean Hugo made his Staysure Legends Tour debut in 2026

Jean Hugo is a South African professional golfer who holds the distinction of having made his professional debut at the Open Championship, turning pro just before the 1999 event at Carnoustie. His decision was prompted by winning the 1998 South African Amateur Championship, a title he retained in 1999, succeeding Trevor Immelman as champion.
He came through the Challenge Tour in 2000 to earn his first full European Tour season, playing on the top tier in 2001 and 2002 before returning to the Sunshine and Challenge Tours for the next fourteen seasons. He regained his European Tour card in 2015 after taking the fourth card at Qualifying School Final Stage.
Hugo comes from a sporting family: his father Victor was an athlete and rugby player, his mother Esme competed in athletics and netball, and his sister Michelle represented South Africa as a sprinter. He made his Staysure Legends Tour debut at the 2026 Barbados Legends.
