His arrival on the European Tour was by way of a third-place finish on the Challenge Tour money list, following six top ten and three top five finishes.
His European Tour victories came on home soil at the Austrian Open in 2006 and the China Open in 2007. He had previously won his home event twice, then on the Challenge Tour, so he now has a hat-trick of Austrian titles.
Markus’ best Order of Merit finish was 49th and he reached the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings in 2007 at number 91. He was the first Austrian to ever win a European Tour title.
Although his success took a little time, he is thoroughly enjoying life on the Legends Tour and recently claimed his long-awaited maiden Legends Tour title at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters hosted by Peter Baker in October 2021. The Austrian finished runner-up in this event on his last two starts, but managed to post a three over par round of 75 to finish on a five under par total, two shots clear of Argentina’s Rafael Gomez.
