Born in Royan, France, Jean Pierre Sallat was a professional footballer for 12 years, playing for Bordeaux and Le Havre before turning his attention to golf in 1983.

After turning professional in 1986, Sallat competed on the Challenge Tour from 1991 to 2000 and has played on the Alps Tour and the French domestic circuit, where he has won once. Sallat’s best finish on the Legends Tour is second at the Scottish Senior Open in 2005.
