Garry Houston took a familiar route into golf, carrying the bag of his dad, Emlyn, as a seven year old at Flint Golf Club. His Mother, Pauline, is a keen player – and according to her son, the most successful golfer in the family as she manages to ‘keep winning’.
Garry won the Welsh Amateur Open Stroke Play title in 1990 and the Welsh Amateur Championship five years later. Houston turned professional in 1995 and gained a European Tour card for the 2000 season and played a season on the DP World Tour before concentrating on the Challenge Tour, where he finished tenth in 2004 – taking the Galeria Kaufhof Pokal Challenge after a four hole sudden-death play-off with England’s Gary Emerson.
Houston was on the bag for Thomas Bjorn at the Irish Legends presented by the McGinley Foundation in 2021 where the Dane won.
