England’s David Gilford won the English Amateur Championship in 1984 and turned professional two years later.

He secured the first of six European Tour victories in 1991 and represented Europe in The Ryder Cup in 1991 and 1995, where he was Europe’s joint-top points scorer at Oak Hill with three points out of four.
His best finish on the Order of Merit was seventh, in 1994, the year he won his biggest prize on the European Tour, the European Open at East Sussex National.
