Born in South Africa, Whitelaw held a Canadian Tour card before moving to Europe, where he won his sole European Tour title at the 1997 Moroccan Open following a blistering eagle-birdie-par finish.
In 2025, he participated in several tournaments, including the 2025 Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex, where he finished tied for 64th.
