With his wife, Amy, on the bag he won the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship by a stroke on his first European Tour start outside the Majors and World Golf Championships. It was also his first official win since 2002.
Runner-up in a Major for the third consecutive season and in his third different Major when he two strokes behind Tiger Woods at The Open, two weeks after the death of his mother. He was also runner-up in the 2004 US PGA Championship and the 2005 Masters Tournament.
Uses the claw putting grip, unusual as he grips a standard putter much like a long putter. The idea came from his friend Skip Kendall at a mini tour event in 1995 and has proved effective ever since.
