Stephen ranks as one of the most successful players in the history of snooker, winning the sport's most prestigious tournament, the World Snooker Championship, a record seven times

Stephen Hendry MBE is a Scottish professional snooker player and current commentator for the BBC and ITV. He ranks as one of the most successful players in the history of snooker, winning the sport’s most prestigious tournament, the World Snooker Championship, a record seven times and holding the record for most seasons as world number one. He calls golf “a great thrill” and being part of the Legends Tour offers an “incredible experience to see how you cope under the pressure of competitive golf”.
Hendry won his first snooker world title in 1990, at the age of 21, making him the youngest ever World Champion, a record that he still holds. He also won six Masters titles (including five consecutively), and five UK Championship titles. His total of 18 Triple Crown tournament wins is surpassed only by Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 20. One of only three players to have won all three Triple Crown events in a single season, Hendry is the only player to have achieved the feat twice, in the 1989–90 and 1995–96 seasons. A prolific break builder, he recorded a total of 775 career century breaks, and made 11 officially recognised maximum breaks in professional competition.
In 1994 Hendry was awarded an MBE, and was voted BBC Scotland’s Sports Personality of the Year in both 1987 and 1996. He retired from snooker in May 2012 after featuring in his 27th consecutive World Championship, but in September 2020, it was announced that Hendry would come out of retirement after having been given an invitational tour card for the next two seasons. Between competitive snooker games, Hendry will be playing on the Legends Tour, enjoying the many prestigious courses it has to offer.
