After playing for Napoli & Parma in his home country of Italy, Gianfranco made the move to England to join Chelsea in 1996, playing a key role in Chelsea’s resurgence – helping them win the 1996 FA Cup and ending the season being voted the FWA Player of the Year in his first season. Gianfranco would go on to capture 6 titles with Chelsea.
After hanging up his boots, Gianfranco would go into management, beginning the next stage of his career at West Ham United in 2008. He would spend two years at West Ham before moving on to Watford, before resigning in 2013. His last management role would be back at Chelsea, as an assistant first-team coach alongside Maurizio Sarri in 2018.
