This year’s event is the first leg of what will be an historic two weeks of professional golf at Trump International with the back-to-back playing of the Legends Tour’s Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, followed immediately by the DP World Tour’s Nexo Championship.

And on the Tuesday of the Legends Tour event, the much-anticipated New course at Trump International will be formally opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will include an appearance by President Donald J. Trump himself.

Confirmed names in the field for the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship include eight-time European Tour order of merit winner and tournament host Colin Montgomerie, 1994 & 1999 Masters champion José María Olazábal, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie, 2005 US Open winner Michael Campbell, 2002 US PGA winner Rich Beem, 2003 US PGA champion Shaun Micheel, 2014 Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, defending champion Robert Coles, Legends Tour Order of Merit leader Scott Hend – fresh from a top-five at the ISPS Handa Senior Open – and a host of Ryder Cup players including Stephen Gallacher and Tour debutante David Howell.

2025 will be the third playing of the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship at Trump International. In 2024 Robert Coles won a thrilling final-day duel with local favourite and former Open champion Paul Lawrie in front of record crowds in Aberdeen. Having won the Senior PGA Professional Championship earlier in the year it was a rare double for the Englishman.

Wednesday 30th July will feature the Cardhu Celebrity Pro-Am with a series of big names taking part – all playing for a nominated charity, with £10,000 going to the winner, £7,500 for second place and £2,500 for third.

Celebrities confirmed to be playing include Robbie Fowler, Teddy Sheringham, Brian McFadden, Judy Murray, Gianfranco Zola, Andriy Shevchenko, Kriss Akabusi, Keith Duffy, Mark Foster and Glenn Hoddle.

For spectators, there will be plenty to see on the golf course and around it too with a spectator village, including Q&A sessions with Ryder Cup captains and Major winners. The tented village will also feature the Staysure Show Stage where local acts will be performing throughout the week.

Fans can also take on some of the most iconic putts in golf history on the movable putting floor of the Zen Green Stage with a leaderboard throughout the week and a selection of great prizes on offer.

Robert Coles, 2024 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner:
It’s great to be back. I remember looking at all the names on the trophy and seeing the pictures of past champions and it’s nice to be in that club. I’m looking forward to getting going and playing the course again. It was a real thrill to win the Senior PGA Professional Championship and then to follow it with the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship was brilliant. It’s the Legends Tour’s flagship event and if you were going to pick one to win it would be right up there.

I wasn’t far off the lead and although I started really well I didn’t really get closer than two back. But when we got to 16 the weather just was horrible – I made a really good up-and-down and Paul [Lawrie] bogeyed it and suddenly I was only one back and thought this is doable. Paul had a couple of bits of bad luck where he hit two fantastic shots on 17, went long and basically had no putt at the back of the green, downwind, down a slope. So a few things went against him and a few things went my way near the end which I was very grateful for. You do need a bit of luck at times and mine certainly came on those last few holes.

We’ve played some really good courses this year and it’s obviously nice to go to these places and get the opportunity to play on tough golf courses. Last year when I won we played the Senior Open at Carnoustie, which was such a test. I had a really good back nine on the final day there and I think it gave me a little spur for the next week, because you sort of take a little bit of last week with you. And so when you go to these top places, it gives you a bit of inspiration as well.

José María Olazábal, 1994 & 1999 Masters champion:
The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is a really important tournament for us. The golf course is magnificent, very challenging, and some of the shots that you have to hit, you know that if you miss you’ll pay dearly. It’s fantastic to have a tournament of that calibre on that kind of golf course.

You have to be accurate – it’s very simple. Most of the tee shots, if you miss the fairway you are in deep trouble. It’s either a hack out or a lost ball because you have the high grass that seems to swallow the ball. It’s a solid golf course lengthwise so you have to play really, really well in order to be able to compete.

I first played in Scotland when I was a teenage boy and I realized that it was a very different game. The first course I played was Gullane for the British Boys and I looked at it and said ‘what is this?!’. It was so dry and hard and it took me a while to figure out how to play those golf courses. But it’s fantastic because you have to bring a lot of imagination into it. It doesn’t matter what number you have in, you might have to play three clubs more or four clubs less because of the wind and the bounce. You don’t know, that’s the beauty.

Adilson Da Silva, 2022 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner:
The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is a very important tournament, it’s very special. The course we’re playing on is such a good test. If you’re not playing well, I don’t think it’s the type of course where you can score well. You just can’t get away with anything. Scotland is an amazing place to play. Every year we come back here and it’s such a treat, a wonderful golf course.

I live near the sea as well, so over the years, that taught me how to hit the ball with a low flight, plus my natural flight is quite low so I’m well suited. When the wind gets stronger I can make it even lower, which is nice. Plus I’m used to hitting running shots and that kind of thing. With the wind, that can be very important. It probably explains why I’ve managed to win quite a few times on link courses.

Playing Sunningdale in the Senior Open was a good test and great preparation for Staysure PGA Seniors Championship. You have to drive well, you have to approach greens well so there’s sort of a similar approach, obviously a different layout, but similar needs. And also, playing with a strong field makes you put in a bit extra effort because you know it’s going to be tough. So it elevates your game and makes you work harder.
