Maurice was twice a winner on the European Senior Tour (now the Legends Tour), six times on the European Tour, he took two titles on the British PGA and played four times in the Ryder Cup from 1969 to 1975.

Maurice was Chairman of the European Senior Tour from 2007 to 2011 and a member of the committee for nine years.

His two Senior titles came in 1996 at the Hippo Jersey Seniors played where he won by seven shots, then two years later he claimed the 1998 Swedish Seniors after beating Jim Rhodes at the first hole of a play-off, sinking a 12-foot birdie putt for the win.

One of his greatest claims to fame was equalling the course record at Augusta National GC shared by Jack Nicklaus and Lloyd Mangrum. He carded his impressive round of 64 in the 1974 Masters Tournament, a record which stood for 12 years.

Bembridge began the final round at three-over par but ended it five-under to finish tied for 9th place, having played the back nine in just 30 strokes.

Maurice made 282 appearances on the European Senior Tour and 283 on the European Tour having begun his golfing career as a teenager working as an assistant at Worksop Golf Club.

The Legends Tour would like to convey their thoughts and condolences to all the friends and family of Maurice Bembridge.
