After a thrilling debut week in Cambodia, the Legends Tour now moves across Vattanac Golf Resort for the second instalment of its historic double-header in Phnom Penh — the Vattanac Legends Championship Legacy Edition, played on the acclaimed Sir Nick Faldo–designed West Course.
Last week’s inaugural event marked a defining moment in Cambodian sporting history, delivering drama, world-class golf and an unforgettable first chapter of the Tour’s new three-event, $1.9 million season-closing trilogy. This week, the stage shifts from the East Course – recently crowned Cambodia’s Best Golf Course – to its striking sister layout, the West Course, where dramatic waterways, bold elevations and Khmer architectural features will once again provide a spectacular backdrop for the game’s greatest names.
Scotland’s David Drysdale arrives for Week Two riding a wave of emotion following his extraordinary victory at the Vattanac Legends Championship, his first win in 19 years, delivered with a magnificent closing 66.
“Vattanac Legends Championship winner sounds fantastic,” Drysdale said after securing his breakthrough Legends Tour title. “It’s been a long time coming, but to get it done here, at such an amazing venue, feels incredible.” Looking ahead to this week’s challenge, Drysdale added:“It’s a different golf course and a good test again — different grass on the greens, much firmer and faster. I’m going to say probably similar scoring to last week, but it is forecast to be much stronger winds, so we will wait and see. But they have two fantastic golf courses here.”
Drysdale’s composed performance on the back nine last week also added pressure on those chasing the Order of Merit trophy. Peter Baker’s T2 finish at -11 has allowed him to take a sizeable chunk out of current Order of Merit leader Scott Hend’s advantage. Hend, who returns to action this week, will be looking to strengthen his position and close the door on his nearest rivals.
The move to the West Course now offers a fresh challenge, new strategic demands and another opportunity for players to etch their names into Cambodian sporting history.
