The Staysure Legends Tour heads to China this week for the Reignwood Legends Championship, with defending champion Keith Horne back at Reignwood Pine Valley looking to repeat his success of 12 months ago.

The tournament marks the next stop in an increasingly tight battle for the Road to Cambodia, with Stephen Gallacher leading the way after moving to the top of the Order of Merit at the European Legends Cup.

The Scot’s tied-fifth finish at Fontanals Golf took him to 2,565 points, but Johan Edfors is now just 102.5 points behind on 2,462.5 following his victory in Spain. Mikael Lundberg remains firmly in the hunt in third on 2,438, meaning just 127 points separate the leading three heading into China.

With the race finely poised and the season entering a crucial stage, there is plenty still to play for as the Tour arrives in Beijing.

The field also features two Major champions, with 2005 U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell and 1991 Masters Champion Ian Woosnam set to tee it up at Reignwood Pine Valley, adding further pedigree to the international field.

They will be joined by one of the most influential figures in Chinese golf, Lianwei Zhang. Zhang made history in 2003 when he became the first Chinese player to win on the European Tour, defeating Ernie Els to claim the Singapore Masters, before becoming the first Chinese golfer to compete in the Masters and a Major Championship the following year.

For Horne, however, this week is about returning to a venue that provided one of the highlights of his 2025 season.

The South African produced a composed display to claim the inaugural Reignwood Legends Championship last year, carding three rounds of 68 to finish 12-under-par and secure a one-shot victory.

“Obviously, it’s very exciting,” said Horne. “I’d played here quite a few times before I won last year and I’ve always enjoyed the golf course.

“Coming back as defending champion, there are lots of positive memories, exciting memories, so I’m looking forward to a good week.”

Horne’s victory 12 months ago was built on assured golf, with the South African remaining in contention throughout the week before holding his nerve over the closing holes.

“I think just how consistent I was the whole week,” he said. “I played solidly the whole week and I felt in control.

“I felt like I was always in with a chance with the way I was playing, and I just remember being really positive the whole week. That’s what I remember most about it.”

Reignwood Pine Valley has proven a particularly good fit for Horne, who believes the layout plays to his strengths from the tee and gives him opportunities to attack the par fives.

“You play so many golf courses around the world and some just suit you,” said Horne.

“I think it’s the fact that the par fives play relatively long, but I can reach all of them if I hit two good shots, so I remember taking advantage of those last year.

“It just sets up well off the tee box. There’s nice definition and good targets to aim at, so I’m really positive off the tee box. I remember driving the ball really well as well.”

Horne’s composure was put to the test during the closing stages of last year’s final round when he found a fairway bunker with water guarding the green.

Unsure whether he held a one or two-shot advantage, the South African eventually learned he had a two-shot cushion and elected to lay up rather than take on a difficult approach over the water.

“When I found out I had a two-shot lead, I was very happy just to lay it up down the fairway,” he recalled.

“I left a pretty simple sand wedge shot into the green, so it was a relief to be able to play with a two-shot lead.”

Twelve months on, Horne now has the opportunity to achieve another career first by successfully defending a title.

“I’ve never defended a title before, so it’ll be a first,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to it. It would be really awesome. It was a great event last year and I’d be really proud to win it again this year.”

The Reignwood Legends Championship takes place from 2–4 October at Reignwood Pine Valley in Beijing, China.
