The Scot has enjoyed an impressive 2026 season on the Staysure Legends Tour, with runner-up finishes at the Staysure Marbella Legends and Staysure English Legends helping him establish a lead at the top of the Road to Cambodia Order of Merit.
After 13 events, Gallacher leads the rankings with 3,032.8 points, ahead of two-time 2026 winner Johan Edfors and Staysure English Legends champion Mikael Lundberg.
With the season approaching its conclusion at the Vattanac Tour Championship in Phnom Penh from 4–6 December, the 2014 Ryder Cup winner remains firmly in contention for the season-long title while preparing to lead Europe’s next generation of golfing talent.
Gallacher will captain a team of six boys and six girls against the United States at the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup, which takes place in Ireland from 14–16 September.
The opening two days will be staged at Ballyneety Golf Club in Limerick, before the singles matches take place at Adare Manor, the host venue of the 2027 Ryder Cup.
Qualification Route Confirmed
Ryder Cup Europe and the European Golf Association have confirmed that six players will earn automatic selection through a season-long ranking system, with the remaining six places decided by Gallacher through Captain’s Picks.
Three boys and three girls will qualify through rankings based on performances at selected amateur and junior tournaments throughout 2027, with players’ best five results from a maximum of ten counting events contributing towards their final position.
Eligible players will automatically be included in the rankings when competing in designated events, with no registration or minimum number of appearances required. The qualification period concludes on 14 August 2027 following The R&A Girls’ and Boys’ Amateur Championships.
Gallacher said: “The qualification announcement marks the start of an exciting period in the lead up to the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup.
“I would encourage these talented players to enter the elite amateur events and try to qualify. After watching the team in New York and Rome, the boys and girls who make the team will enjoy a special opportunity and make lifetime memories at Ballyneety and Adare Manor.
“I am looking forward to getting to some events during the year and working with Europe’s brightest up-and-coming talent once again.”
Inspiring Europe's Next Generation
Gallacher brings considerable experience to the captaincy, having represented Europe in the victorious 2014 Ryder Cup team at Gleneagles and previously captained Europe’s juniors in Rome and New York.
A former European Amateur champion, he has also supported the development of young golfers through the Stephen Gallacher Foundation, helping create opportunities for junior players across Scotland.
Since its introduction in 1997, the Junior Ryder Cup has provided a platform for some of Europe’s most successful golfers, including Rory McIlroy, Nicolai Højgaard and Nicolas Colsaerts, who have all gone on to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup.
With the Road to Cambodia title still to play for, Gallacher’s immediate focus remains on finishing the 2026 Staysure Legends Tour season on a high, before turning his attention to guiding Europe’s next generation of golfing talent towards the 2027 Junior Ryder Cup.
