2025 NI Legends champion Markus Brier, Staysure Legends Tour debutant Henrik Stenson and Frenchman Lionel Alexandre remain firmly in the hunt heading into the weekend at the ISPS HANDA Senior Open, as Cameron Percy maintained his advantage at The Gleneagles Hotel.

Percy will take a three-shot lead into the final 36 holes after a second-round 68 moved him to nine under par, with American Jerry Kelly his nearest challenger on six under.

A host of familiar Staysure Legends Tour names sit just behind. 2025 NI Legends champion Markus Brier climbed nine places into a share of third after a battling one-under-par 69. The Austrian’s round featured an eagle and three birdies as he moved to four under, keeping himself firmly in contention for Senior Major glory.

Joining Brier in a share of third is Henrik Stenson, who made his Staysure Legends Tour debut earlier this season at the Barbados Legends hosted by Ian Woosnam. The former Open Champion recovered from an eventful front nine before birdieing the 15th and 18th to sign for a two-under-par 68 and continue his impressive week.

Four-time Major Champion Ernie Els also sits at four under after battling to a one-over-par 71, while Lionel Alexandre, who occupied solo second after an opening-round 64, remains within striking distance at three under despite a tougher second day in the Scottish winds.

Further down the leaderboard, multiple Staysure Legends Tour winner Peter Baker continued his consistent start with a one-under-par 69 to move into a share of eighth at two under, leaving the Englishman well placed heading into moving day.

Friday’s tougher conditions proved a stark contrast to the opening round, with stronger winds and firm, fast fairways ensuring no player managed a bogey-free score around the King’s Course.

Percy briefly looked set to be dragged back to the field after bogeys at the fifth and eighth, but steadied himself with a birdie at the ninth before producing one of the moments of the day with a chip-in birdie at the 13th. Further gains at the 14th and 18th completed an excellent closing stretch and gave the Australian a commanding advantage.

“Obviously very happy,” Percy said. “It’s such a hard golf course. You’ve got to concentrate on every single shot. There’s no easy holes or anything. You can lose your ball on every shot.

“That’s what I like. It keeps me tuned in. Yesterday I hit it everywhere I was looking, so it was pretty easy. Today was way harder trying to judge how much the wind would hit stuff. I got it around okay. That was the difference, I think.”

With just 16 players under par, the stage is set for an intriguing weekend featuring Major champions, Ryder Cup stars and some of the Staysure Legends Tour’s biggest names all chasing Senior Major success at Gleneagles.
