Playing off a handicap of six, Stubbs carded an impressive round of 76 (nett 70), with a critical birdie at the last tying him with AC Milan legend and Ballon d’Or winner Andriy Shevchenko on 38 points and an overall victory on countback.
Playing alongside former Ryder Cup player Jarmo Sandelin, Stubbs was delighted to be able to make such a significant contribution to the Southport attack charity.
“It’s been an amazing day and to win for charity is a real bonus, I’m very happy,” said Stubbs. “I plan to donate to the Southport attack fund which is helping the community and hopefully this will make a difference there.
“For me, this is the best links course I’ve ever played and it was in such magnificent condition, all credit to the staff and everybody involved here and, on the Legends Tour, because it truly is a special place.
“It was great to see so many faces, not just from the world of football, but from the world of sports. It’s a great bunch and everyone gets on really well. I think there’s a real camaraderie and banter between everybody here. which adds to why it’s such an enjoyable tournament.
In addition to £10,000 for Stubbs’ chosen charity, the Legends Tour also put up another £10,000 for the celebrities finishing second and third to donate to their preferred good causes.
Shevchenko – who shot an impressive gross 71 alongside Colin Montgomerie – will be donating £7,500 to the UAF Foundation, while third-placed Teddy Sheringham will make a £2,500 donation to Variety Manchester.
